Institute of China's Science, Technology and Education Policy (iCSTEP, formerly Research Institute of Development Strategy (RIDS), renamed since March, 2016), Zhejiang University, founded in January, 2013 and directly subordinate to Zhejiang University, is the key strategic research base of Ministry of Education, and the key strategic research base of Chinese Academy of Engineering. The Research Center for Science, Technology and Education Policy (RCSTEP) is affiliated to the joint department together with iCSTEP. The research subjects comprise the development strategy of higher education, engineering education and science and technology management.
The mission of iCSTEP embodies 3 ‘N’s to establish research platform with the integration of various resources. Based on “Global Vision”, “National Think-tank” and “ZJU Strategy”, iCSTEP serves the strategy of invigorating the country and universities through science, technology and education. 3 ‘N’s include:
Needs for developing strategy of key science and technology and higher education. It is essential to build up international interdisciplinary platform for key research program. iCSTEP hopes to table a pragmatic policy proposal with substantial research achievements.
Needs for reform and strategic development of university. Zhejiang University strives for the first-class university in the world when many emergent questions still remain. iCSTEP focuses on the key issues in terms of strategic points, and supports superior leaders with consulting advice.
Needs for theory frontiers in the area of Science, Technology and Education Policy. Based on the up-to-date theories, iCSTEP is capable of constructing the academic platform where research in higher education and strategic decision can advance.
iCSTEP comprises the master degree program, the doctor degree program and work station for post-doctor of Education Economics and Management. Also, iCSTEP is engaged in the doctor degree program for management science and engineering, educational management, and technological innovation management.The staff on the list of iCSTEP include: 11 professors, 8 associate professors and assistant professors. Five of them serves as doctoral supervisors, and eight as master’s supervisors.The count of post-doctors, PHD candidates and master candidates altogether stands at 30. A number of scholars who enjoy considerable reputation are invited as part-time professors in iCSTEP.
iCSTEP takes active part in the far wider cooperation both in home and overseas. Internationally, the institutes of strategic collaboration range from UNESCO, Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF), Kennedy School of Government (KSG), to the network of strategic collaboration with other ten first-class universities in Asia and Europe. Also, iCSTEP establishes strategic partnership with Chinese Academy of Sciences, Chinese Academy of Engineering, National Center for Education Development Research (NCEDR) and other well-fame universities. With broad network covering national and international institutes, iCSTEP aimed at establishing a high-end research platform of synergy innovation.
